It was a simple update of percentage accomplishment of Concrete Hollow Blocks piling and plastering of interior and exterior walls prior to providing of actual accomplishment of the in comparison to the theoretical accomplishment to be depicted in the S-Curve.
  • Edit Minutes of Meeting (May 12, 2008). The Senior Project Manager handed to me the minutes of the meeting with the CDU group by Monday, May 12, 2008. The said minutes with corrections done by the Senior Project Manager, himself, was to be encoded again and printed for the final output. I simply followed what has been written as his corrections and printed the final output.
  • Inspection on Building 2. Before I left the site I had an inspection on building 2 to observe on the on-going process of finishing the rooms. There were still few rooms with incomplete plaster. However, a remarkable improvement was observed since most of the toilet and bath have been plastered already.

There work is to apply water-proofing materials on the floor of the toilet and bathroom, gutter and all those which needs to water-proofed in the three buildings. With the saved format in the computer, I just edited some few details which includes the name of the sub-contractor, the name of the Project and some few more details. I then inputed the necessary data, the scope of work with respective percentage of the total accomplishment, the percentage accomplished this week, the respective amount of each accomplishment and the total amount billed. This will be signed by the Project Architect assigned.

During the Afternoon, I decided to have an inspection on building 2 to observe the accomplishments made. There were still rooms incompletely plastered. Concrete Hollow Blocks piling were complete though.

  • Estimate Grooving Linear Meter for Building 1, 2 and 3. An additional work was requested by the CDU Group to the Senior Project Engineer was the linear grooving of the three buildings. The Senior Project Engineer instructed me to estimate the linear meter of the grooving for the three buildings. The part which will be grooved were the facade of the three buildings which will not be placed with sun buffles. I tried to look for Engr. Incorporado, the architectural designer of the buildings so that I will have the idea as to what are the specifications of the groove particularly the distance and the particular walls to be grooved. However, since I was not able to see him, I did an educated estimate of 1m gap which fortunately was agreed by the Senior Project Manager. I came to a result of more or less three thousand linear meter of grooving for the three buildings.
  • Actual Accomplishment Report on Laying of Trusses. I was tasked to have an ocular inspection on the number of trusses laid. I shaded the part in the layout where trusses were laid and made a report on the accomplishment.
  • CHB Piling Update. I had another inspection to have an update of the piling of Concrete Hollow Blocks. I shaded the additional part in the layout which has been piled already.

Thirteenth Day: May 6, 2008 [Tuesday]

Date: May 6, 2008 [Tuesday]

Morning

Time In: 8:00 AM

Time Out: 12:00 PM

Afternoon

Time In: 1:00 PM

Time Out: 6:00 PM

A meeting, headed by the Senior Project Manager, was held. One of the discussed topic was on the follow up of the rooms I am supposed to turn over everyday. The CDU Group was pressuring us to hand over rooms in building 3 particularly do that there will be enough space for the tiles. the tiles were scheduled to be delivered by this week and the CDU Group needs at least 10 rooms in building 3, ground floor. The Senior Project Manager also emphasized that the next target building will be the building 2 since they will be scheduling to begin the tiling and painting works by third week of May. i reported that the masonry workers were told to first accomplished everything in building 3. The general foreman in building 2 and 3 also reported that he needs more days to finish the first level of the two buildings. During confrontation with the Senior Project Manager, the General Foreman said he would finish the first level of building 2 by May 11, 2008 (Sunday).

We visited the Robinland Project to observe the building’s foundation. A footing has been poured with concrete already. The workers were starting to erect the tower crane for the project. There were still piles not cut and there were more excavation to be done. The Project Manager decided to gradually do the excavation since there were structures adjacent on both sides.

Twelfth Day: May 5, 2008 [Monday]

Date: May 5, 2008 [Monday]

Morning

Time In: 8:00 AM

Time Out: 12:00 PM

Afternoon

Time In: 1:00 PM

Time Out: 6:00 PM

These are the tasks which filled our day:

  • Inspection on Building 2, Ground Floor for Room Turnovers. I prepared a checklist for the room turnovers which will be the basis of my report on the accomplishments and lacking as per room prior to the mandate of turning over at least three rooms per day. I had an ocular inspection during the morning and the afternoon observing the speed of their work and realized that there were not enough workers assigned in building 2, ground floor. This was because most of the people were still working and also meeting the deadlines in building 3, ground floor. At the end of the day, I made a report and basing on what has been accomplished per room, I provided an percentage of accomplishment. Most of the rooms have accomplished 60% of the needed work. However, there were still which was on 30% achieved. All the rooms were not yet bored with holes for the soap and tissue holder. Most rooms also need further finishing of the door and window jambs. There were few rooms left not plastered. It was very hard to turnover even a single room.
  • Orientation of the S-Curve. The Cadet Engineer oriented me with the documentation process of the project which involved the S-Curve of the project. The success of the project somehow depends on the S-Curve. An S-Curve determines whether the project is advance or delayed through the comparison of the theoretical accomplishment and the actual accomplishment. The graph also depicts the variance in percentage and in days.

Eleventh Day: May 2, 2008 [Friday]

Date: May 2, 2008 [Friday]

The whole day was filled with much enthusiasm and pressure in the site. Most of us were busy preparing for the topping off which will be held on the slab of the water tank in the fourth level between building 1 and building 2. During the morning, my classmate and I were tasked to prepare for the way where the CDU Group and all the people involved in the topping off will pass through by placing caution tape along the way. We also made a welcome sign for the visitors.

The topping of started nearly 2:00 pm which consisted of Dr. Potenciano V. Larrazabal Jr., President of Cebu Doctor’s University, Engr. Rey Incorporado, the one who design the architectural of Cebu Doctor’s University Dormitory, Engr. Dennis Labus and Engr. Ebenzer Requioma, Engineers representing th CDU Group, Archt. Manuel Ambos Jr, the Senior Project Manager of the CDU Dormitory Project and Ryan Poncardas, Cadet Engineer of the said project. We took the pictures of the event for documentation purposes. Late lunch followed after. Although minor problems were encountered which caused the delay of the topping off, the event was a success.

The day started with the Senior Project Manager calling our attention regarding on the turning over of rooms. He assigned me to a cadet engineer to report the accomplishments of the building I was assigned – building 2. I have to coordinate with the Cadet Engineer on implementing deadlines of room turn overs. The Senior Project Engineer required us to hand over at least three rooms per day. The Cadet Engineer handed me a checklist for the rooms as to what is lacking and what should be done. I did an inspection to check if there were rooms possible for hand overs by the end of the day.

During the afternoon, the Chief Foreman of the Robinland Commercial Building Project took us to the site where we witnessed the reinforcing of the foundation where the elevator shaft will be located and where the tower crane will also be placed while the project is on-going. The project has several piles allowed to penetrate almost 10m from the

Ninth Day: April 30, 2008 [Wednesday]

Date: April 30, 2008 [Wednesday]

Morning

Time In: 8:00 AM

Afternoon

Time In: 1:00 PM

Time Out: 6:00 PM

These were the tasks which filled our day:

  • Inspection on Building 1 and 2 For Room Turnovers. Another daily routine wherein I have to inspect the Building I am assigned and report the accomplishments to the Cadet Engineer. In building 1, there were still no toilet and bathroom partition. Some of the rooms have just started piling concrete hollow blocks for the partition of toilet and bathroom. Building 2 however showed improvement; toilet and bathrooms were completely piled with CHB.
  • Actual Accomplishment Report on CHB Piling and Plastering. I did an update of the percentage accomplishment of the piling of concrete hollow blocks and plastering of exterior and interior walls. This includes the three buildings and the parapet as well since they have started piling CHB on the parapet.
  • Estimate on Drop Wall. I was tasked top estimate the proposed drop wall along the gutter of the three buildings. There were three options for the drop wall material: the Hardiflex, the EVG and the reinforced concrete (pre-cast).

Eighth Day: April 29, 2008 [Tuesday]

Date: April 29, 2008 [Tuesday]

Morning

Time In: 8:00 AM

Time Out: 12:00 PM

Afternoon

These were the tasks which filled our day:

  • Actual Accomplishment report on CHB Piling and Plastering. I did the weekly routine of ocular inspection on the three existing buildings with regards to the accomplishment of the Piled Concrete Hollow Blocks and the Plastering of both interior and exterior walls. I made a report having percentage accomplishment of CHB Piling and Walls Plastering per building and the total accomplishment of the Project. My calculations were compared to the Cadet Engineer’s calculations. Since our data varied in small amount, the Cadet Engineer decided to have the mean to be used in the weekly report he is to submit to the Senior Project Manager and to be depicted in the S-Curve.
  • CHB Piling Update. Another weekly routine, I did an update of the Piling of Concrete Hollow Blocks on the three buildings. The existing floor plan layouts of all the levels of the three buildings, placed in the Senior Project Manager’s Office, was shaded corresponding to the actual piled CHB.

Seventh Day: April 28, 2008 [Monday]

Date: April 28, 2008 [Monday]

Morning

Time In: 8:00 AM

Time Out: 12:00 PM

Afternoon

Time In: 1:00 PM

Time Out: 6:00 PM

These were the tasks which filled our day:

  • Inspection on Building 2, Ground Floor for Room Turnovers. I had an early inspection of the rooms in my assigned building. I had to determine what was lacking so that I can report it to the Cadet Engineer and for him to reprimand the masonry sub-contractors, foremen and lead men to keep on the hurry since the rooms are badly needed in a week or so. There were still a lot of uninstalled lavatory counter and there weren’t any zocalo on the shower room. There were still plastering to be done and most of the bath rooms weren’t piled with Concrete Hollow Blocks yet. I had another routinely inspection during the afternoon and found there work very slow. The assigned foreman however explained that they have to prioritize building 3 since it was the one ahead of all the accomplishments.
  • Estimate Volume to be Poured with Concrete. I was tasked to estimate the volume to be poured with concrete. This includes columns, beams and slabs along Grid Line E to Grid Line G in building 1, fourth level. The estimated volume will be used and stated in the Concrete Pouring Request.
  • Preparation of Concrete Pouring Request. The Cadet Engineer tasked me to prepare the necessary documents for the Concrete Pouring Request which will be signed by all involved sub-contractors before the concrete pouring is done. I provided the necessary plans to be attached and the necessary details.
